Brooklyn straphangers won?t be facing fare hikes until next year.
The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) says it is pushing back its planned fare hike until 2007. MTA officials say higher than expected tax revenues will delay the hikes. According to officials, with the new state budget they will be able to cover rising costs and pay off some debts.
A representative from the Straphangers Campaign believes the MTA is going in the right direction. He claims putting the issue in the hands of the new governor will offer NYC transit the chance to get its fair share of state aid. The MTA board will meet to discuss the new budget and outline the fare strategy for 2007.
