Organizers of this year?s West Indian American Day Parade are hoping attention to detail and small changes will make the parade safer.

The celebration, which goes down Eastern Parkway to Grand Army Plaza, is about three weeks away. Last year, there were several shootings near the parade.

The West Indian American Day Carnival Association says it is closely working with the NYPD on safety changes. Association officials say police will be next to the driver on all floats.

In past years, vendors set up along the street without proper paperwork. This year, police will have extra officers on-hand to check every vendor. Those without proper paperwork could be removed, ticketed and have their goods confiscated.
