The New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) is facing a budget crisis and some Brooklyn and city tenants may pay extra to help it meet its cost.
The NYCHA is proposing increased service fees for utilities and repairs. The NYCHA says the fee increases would affect those who exceed normal utility charges for several household appliances. The proposed plans would also increase replacement costs for certain items, unless they are damaged by normal wear and tear.
Many residents are upset about the proposed fee increases. The NYCHA brought the proposed plans before a City Council committee Wednesday. Some Council members also feel the increases aren?t a good idea. Residents can voice their concerns about the fee hikes to the NYCHA until March 13.
