In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the South Shore is going pink.
Northwell Health kicked off its "Pink By The Bay" initiative on Tuesday in Lindenhurst.
Officials lit a pink light outside Babylon Town Hall to remind and encourage women to get their mammograms.
"Think about your mammography as a positive experience," says Dr. Nina Vincoff, of the Northwell Health Breast Imaging Center. "What you're actually doing is something to empower yourself. You're taking a proactive action to prevent breast cancer from having the impact on your life it could otherwise have."
For many women, doctors say mammograms are the best way to detect breast cancer early.
According to the American Cancer Society, around 13% of women will develop breast cancer.
