Authorities will deploy nearly double the amount of uniformed officers Tuesday than on previous Election Days, officials said at a news conference Monday.

Mayor Bill de Blasio, NYPD Commissioner James O'Neill and Secret Service agent David Beach say more than 5,000 uniform officers will be on duty. That is similar to the amount of officers patrolling on New Year's Eve or when Pope Francis visited last year.

Officials say the increase in security comes as both presidential candidates Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are expected to hold their celebration parties in New York City, the first pair of candidates to do so in 72 years. 

The mayor says officers will be at every polling location, in subways, and at both candidates' celebration parties.
