The mother of an NYPD detective killed by a fellow police officer in May called for a criminal investigation of the incident Saturday.
Natalia Harding, who appeared at the National Action Network on Lenox Avenue, says she was speaking on behalf of her son, Det. Omar Edwards, in demanding NYPD accountability after the fatal shooting. Edwards was shot by another officer while chasing a suspect in East Harlem.
Harding hopes her son's death will reinforce police sensitivity training in minority communities and require officers to live in the neighborhoods they serve.
