Two teenagers were shot in Newark on Thursday afternoon.

Newark police say a 15-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were injured in the shooting near the intersection of South 11th Street and South Orange Avenue.

Neighbors say the shooting started with a fight near Golden Pizzeria.

Maria Ortiz works at the restaurant and witnesses some of the chaos. She says some people started fighting inside and then one of them pulled out a gun.

"The guy on the floor, he takes the gun. [I didn't see it.] I only see the boom.

Ortiz says the pizzeria is a popular hangout spot for teenagers. It is located not too far from West Side High School.

The injured teens were taken to University Hospital and are in stable condition, according to officials. No arrests have been made.

Some Newark residents tell News 12 New Jersey that they are concerned about ongoing gun violence in the city.

“Everybody has kids out here, our kids have to grow up," says resident Jeffrey Gilliam. "How can our kids grow up if they’re getting shot like this? This is crazy, people just don’t care no more."

Thursday's shooting happened about eight blocks away from the mosque where Imam Hassan Sharif was killed in another shooting incident.
