A man was arrested Friday in connection to the death of a Newark fire captain.
Eliasel Baez, of Kearny, is accused of selling cocaine to Capt. Carlos Rivera that led to Rivera's overdose.
Rivera was found unresponsive inside a Newark firehouse on Park Avenue back in January.
"Essex County leads the state in drug overdoses,” Essex County Prosecutor Theodore Stephens said. “Given those numbers, it is important we fully investigate these cases and charge the perpetrators with strict liability homicide when appropriate.
