A man from Flatlands died Tuesday while he was being taken to an ambulance in handcuffs, according to police.
Officials say they responded to a domestic dispute before 6 a.m. in Flatlands. That's when authorities say they found an emotionally disturbed 23-year-old man and took him into custody.
Police say they handcuffed the man and he became unconscious as they were transporting him to an ambulance in handcuffs.
Police tell News 12 they removed his handcuffs and first responders began performing CPR. They say when they got to Beth Israel Hospital, the man was pronounced dead.
Police have not released the man's name. The medical examiner is working to determine the cause of death.
The NYPD is investigating.
