Pope Francis has confirmed that he will travel to the United States next year, and he's expected to make a stop in New York City.
Francis says he will travel to Philadelphia next September for the World Meeting of Families, a conference held every three years in a different city to celebrate the importance of family.
While in America, Francis is also expected to address Congress and deliver a speech at the United Nations in Manhattan to mark its 70th anniversary.
Details of his itinerary won't be finalized until next spring or summer, but the pope's presence would require coordination among local, state and federal security.
It will be his first visit to the U.S. as pope.
