Three troubled Brooklyn high schools will remain on the city's watch list for at least one more year, according to the Department of Education.

The city placed Canarsie, Sheepshead Bay and Samuel J. Tilden high schools on the Impact Schools initiative list after consulting with the NYPD. The mayor started the program in 2004 to monitor chronically violent institutions.

However, Tilden High School is scheduled to close in 2010. Parents argue more schools will suffer the same fate unless overcrowding stops. They blame the city for packing more students into the schools than educators can handle.
