Subway riders are teaming up with members of the Riders Alliance to get support for legislation that could mean big savings for commuters.
A City Council bill called the Affordable Transit Act would offer a tax break to some commuters who ride to and from work. The bill would require employers with 20 or more workers to offer a MetroCard tax break to their staff.
The bill could result in savings of as much as $443 a year for riders.
A day of action was held Sunday in Brooklyn to push for the legislation. Riders Alliance members got people interested by having them write down what they would do with the extra $443 each year.
