A man who spent nearly three decades behind bars for a crime he didn't commit is finally free.
David McCallum reunited with his family at the Kings County Courthouse Wednesday afternoon.
McCallum, along with Willie Stuckey, was behind bars after being convicted in the killing of Nathan Blenner in 1985. Both convicted men were just 16 years old.
McCallum was recently profiled in the documentary "David and Me."
The murder conviction was overturned after Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson moved to vacate it. The DA's Conviction Review Unit found inconsistencies in the case file and felt the evidence was not sufficient for a conviction. The judge agreed.
Stuckey, who was also convicted of the 1985 crime, died in prison back in 2001.
McCallum says he wants to help others and become an advocate for those imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.
