Prosecutors say a Yonkers man is facing a slew of charges for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl in Van Cortlandt Park.
Abundio Hernandez Cantu, 36, was arrested, arraigned and granted supervised release on Monday. He is accused of carrying out the attack on June 23.
According to authorities, Cantu approached the girl around 9 p.m. aboard a Bx9 bus and grabbed her when she exited the bus at Broadway and West 261 Street. He allegedly proceeded to drag the girl into a wooded area inside the park, where he allegedly sexually assaulted her before running away.
Police say paramedics rushed the 13-year-old to a nearby hospital, where she is expected to recover physically.
The NYPD released images of Cantu three days after the assault.
He now faces second- and third-degree rape, endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree sexual abuse and sexual misconduct charges.
Prosecutors say Cantu is expected back in court on July 28.
