A Brooklyn judge sentenced Marquis Shiloh to 25 years in prison for the 2023 killing of 26-year-old Stephon Sinclair at the Tompkins Houses.

Prosecutors said Shiloh, 35, attacked Sinclair in the lobby of their building on July 12, 2023. When Sinclair tried to run, Shiloh stabbed him in both legs, severing an artery.

Sinclair’s parents grew emotional as the sentence was read.

“It won’t bring my son back, but I’m happy justice has been served,” his mother said outside of court.

In a victim impact statement, Sinclair’s sister described her brother as someone who “brought light into every room and made people laugh even on their worst days.” She was unable to attend the sentencing because she was giving birth to a baby girl.

Shiloh declined to address the family. The judge called the crime “unprovoked and senseless” and said Shiloh had shown no remorse.

Shiloh’s defense attorney said the 25-year sentence was “a little harsh” but acknowledged the family’s pain.

More than two years after Sinclair’s death, his family said the sentencing brings them closer to healing.
