Canarsie organizations are calling on the city for a public community center.

It comes after the city allocated $500,000 to a feasibility study for a public community center in Canarsie as part of the 2026 city budget back in June.

Jibreel Jalloh, founder of the Flossy Organization, says while it's a step in the right direction, he wants action before it's too late.

"What else do we need? How many more lives are we going to lose before the city acts? We don't need a study. We need action," said Jalloh.

News 12 met with Jalloh at Bildersee Playground, the site of multiple incidents of teen violence. He says that the area of Canarsie is a hotspot for crime, and having the community center near there could help the youth.

"If we tell the youth right now who may be headed down the wrong path to say you know put the guns down do something else. One of the first questions is like what do you want me to do? Where do you want me to go," said Jalloh.

News 12 reached out to the city about the money as well as the study, but hasn't yet heard back.
